How did we get our name?

ISLAND DOG BREWING name embodies our love for our two rescue dogs (from Puerto Rico and Costa Rica) and the beauty of Coastal Maine. Jody grew up on Mount Desert Island (MDI) where her father (Tucker Spurling) was a lobsterman until his retirement in 2017, at age 81!

How do we come up with our Beer Names?

Iron Bison is a tribute to Jim’s Buffalo, NY roots

Unit 15 is number of our space at 125 John Roberts Road

Foggy Beach stemmed from a very memorable visit to a very foggy Popham Beach when Jim first moved to Maine

3 Buoy Brown was an idea to incorporate the nautical term (lobster) buoy with a tribute to Jim’s son and Jody’s 2 sons

Where do we get our ingredients?

90% of our malted grains comes from Maine; Blue Ox and The Maine Malt House.

50% of our hops are from The Hop Yard in Gorham, ME.
